Epic Games hosts Fortnite tournament with $30 million in prize money
Epic Games will host a major Fortnite tournament from April 13 to June 16, with a total prize pool of $30 million. It concerns the Fortnite World Cup, with the finals taking place in July.
Epic Games reports that the Fortnite World Cup will kick off April 13 with ten weekly qualifiers, with $1 million being distributed among players each week. Players may only participate if they are at least 13 years old and their accounts may not be subject to any penalty imposed by Epic Games during the tournament.
Ultimately, the top 100 solo players and the top 50 duo teams will compete in the finals from July 26 to 28 in New York. Each of the participants in these finals will receive at least $50,000. The top prize consists of 3 million dollars; which belongs to the eventual solo champion.
Earlier, Epic Games announced that it is making $100 million in e-sports prize money. This is the total sum of prize money that will be spent in a competitive context this year. The Fortnite World Cup has a total prize pool of $30 million. To reach the $100 million, Epic Games will also host weekly tournaments throughout the rest of the year, each with prize pools totaling $1 million. Compared to the World Cup, these tournaments will use more different game modes and formats.
