Epic adds bots to Fortnite and improves matchmaking
Epic adds bots to Fortnite. The company is going to adjust the matchmaking in the Battle Royale mode so that players have to get better opponents. Bots are also included for the first time.
Epic says in a blog post that the game’s matchmaking system has hardly changed since the introduction of the battle royale mode. At the same time, the levels between players have become very different, and therefore an innovation is needed, the developer writes. This way players are better divided among themselves in matches.
The new update to the matchmaking algorithm comes in version 10.40 of the game. Players are thus matched with other players who are more of their own level. This includes looking at the number of Hype players have. Players with similar Hype are more likely to be put together in matches. Epic is gradually rolling out the new algorithm and is looking at how players respond to it. That rollout is happening worldwide in all Battle Royale games.
To make the matchmaking more fair, Epic is also introducing bots into the game for the first time. According to the developer, they play just like regular players, and they allow new players to grow faster in how good they are. The bots have been adapted to the new matchmaking algorithm. That means that in every game they are about the same level as the players themselves. According to Epic, players will gradually see fewer bots as they get better at the game. The bots are not in Competitive mode.
