Entertainment Software Association will not host its own online E3 event

The Entertainment Software Association will not come up with an online alternative to the canceled E3 game show. However, the organization will support and promote online events from developers and publishers via its website.

When the ESA decided in March to cancel the E3 show in June, the organization said it was planning an online event as an alternative. It remained silent about that, but now the organization tells PC Gamer that there will be no online E3 event.

“Instead, we work with exhibitors to promote and present individual announcements,” the organization says. Many publishers and developers have already announced their own online shows. The E3 organization will promote it through its own site, but will not organize its own online event.

Earlier this week, IGN announced a Summer of Gaming event in June. The site does that in partnership with 2K, Square Enix, Sega, Bandai Namco, Amazon, Google Stadia, Twitter, Devolver Digital, THQ Nordic and more companies. The companies and the game website are therefore in the waters of an online E3 event.

The E3 organization emphasizes that there will be a ‘redesigned’ E3 next year, which should appeal to the public. In recent years, more and more large companies have ignored the game fair. Sony wasn’t present last year and wouldn’t be this year either. EA has been organizing its own event just before the fair for years.
