Eneco Toon thermostat will support Philips Hue and comes with api
Eneco will considerably increase the possibilities of its ‘smart’ Toon thermostat. For example, the device, for which a subscription must be purchased, will be able to control Philips Hue lamps. There will also be a publicly available API.
Energy supplier Eneco announced on Tuesday that the Toon can control the LED lamps that Philips supplies under the Hue brand. The Toon thermostat can show an on/off button on the display, so that the Hue lamps can also be switched on and off immediately without a ready smartphone. In time, the company also wants to add circuit diagrams to Toon that will be compatible with Hue.
Eneco also announced that it will introduce an open API for Toon. According to the energy supplier, there was a lot of market demand for access to its platform and developers can develop new applications with the collected information about energy consumption.
The energy supplier is currently testing a system called Ketelcomfort. An installation company is also notified if there is a fault with the central heating boiler. The installation company must also gain insight into the possible cause from a distance. There are also plans to measure air quality.
The energy company calls its Toon the ‘pivot’ of its sustainable strategy. At the beginning of next year, Toon must also be able to deal with consumers who have placed solar panels on the roof, and at the end of this year Toon will also work in households that are connected to district heating.
Eneco reports that it expects one hundred thousand households to use the Toon by the end of this year. An average Eneco customer would save approximately 10 percent on his energy costs thanks to the smart thermostat.
