Elon Musk asks for Twitter takeover lawsuit to be postponed
Elon Musk wants the lawsuit over the renunciation of the Twitter acquisition to take place next year. The social medium wants to go to court in September this year. Musk’s lawyers say they need more time because of the complex burden of proof.
Elon Musk’s lawyers believe that Twitter is wrongly insisting that the lawsuit be brought to court within two months. That reports Bloomberg. Musk’s legal team asks for a delay so that it has more time for the ‘forensic assessment and analysis of large amounts of data’.
Musk claims that Twitter is overloaded with spam and bot accounts, and therefore wants to cancel the takeover deal. Twitter’s request to start the lawsuit in September is a tactical move “to cover up the truth about spam accounts long enough,” Musk said.
Musk’s team would like the lawsuit to begin on or after February 13 next year. As the debt financing pledged by banks for the acquisition expires in April of 2023, it is possible that the deal could fail if the lawsuit is not finalized by then.
A week ago it became clear that Musk no longer wants to take over the social media platform. Twitter is suing the Tesla CEO to enforce the acquisition for the $44 billion that has been agreed. The Twitter deal also states that Musk will owe $1 billion if he forgoes the acquisition.
