Electric Volkswagen sedan ID.7 will have a range of ‘approximately’ 700 kilometers
Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.7, the production version of the ID.AERO shown last year. The production model will have a larger WLTP range of approximately seven hundred kilometers instead of the aforementioned 620 kilometers. It is not yet known when production will start.
The ID.7 Volkswagen’s first all-electric sedan and is based on the MEB platform, like other current Volkswagen EVs. The company does not yet provide many details, for example it is not clear why the range is greater than that of the ID.AERO. That concept model had a 77kWh battery and thus achieved a WLTP range of 620 kilometers.
Volkswagen does say that the ID.7 has a sloping roof to the rear, which reduces air resistance. In addition, there are air intakes at the front that direct the airflow along the side to the rear, aerodynamically reducing vortices from the side. Furthermore, the company says the car has a wheelbase of 2.97 meters and a roomier interior than the Passat, the petrol and diesel equivalent of the ID.7.
Where the company does not yet fully disclose the appearance of the car, Volkswagen does show the inside. Compared to other ID models, it will have a larger 15-inch infotainment screen and a smaller screen behind the steering wheel. The touch-sensitive sliders for temperature and volume below the infotainment screen are now illuminated. Volkswagen also says that the car recognizes voice commands and the ‘ proximity to the key’, in order to preheat or cool the interior.
The ID.7 is Volkswagen’s sixth ID car and the second model after the ID.4 to appear in China, Europe and North America. The European ID.7 will eventually be built in Emden, Germany. Volkswagen said at the ID.AERO that production would start in China in the second half of 2023; only then will Europe and the United States follow. In the second quarter of this year, the company will reveal the appearance of the sedan. The price of the ID.7 is not yet known.
