Eizo has announced a square monitor with a screen diagonal of 26.5″ and a resolution of 1920×1920 pixels. According to the manufacturer, the screen is better suited to display elongated windows than regular monitors, which would benefit developers.

The Japanese manufacturer Eizo emphasizes that the 26.5 “screen with its aspect ratio of 1:1 and resolution of 1920×1920 pixels shows 78 percent more pixels than a full-HD screen with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The extra vertical space, according to Eizo, reduces scrolling and renders data more efficient, and is primarily aimed at professionals such as CAD designers and developers.

The FlexScan EV2730Q has a matte IPS panel and is height adjustable, but can also be tilted and rotated. The maximum brightness is 300cd/m² and the brightness can be adjusted in steps of 1 percent. A proximity sensor ensures that the screen goes into sleep mode if the user is not in front of the screen for a while. The gray-to-gray response time is 5ms. The screen also contains a displayport and DVI-D connection, and three USB 2.0 ports, one of which is upstream and two downstream variants. There are also two built-in 1W speakers.

Eizo will launch the FlexScan EV2730Q in the first half of 2015 for an unknown price.
