Eemshaven gets second data center
The Eemshaven in Groningen may expand earlier than originally intended. The reason for this is the arrival of a second data center. A total area of 40 hectares will be freed up for the expansion.
That writes RTV Noord. The province of Groningen has granted permission to the municipality of Eemsmond, where the site for the expansion is located. A total of 40 hectares will be set aside for this purpose.
The second data center would be needed to meet the ever-increasing need for data storage. The Eemshaven has a favorable location for this. For example, the transatlantic internet cable comes ashore in the port of Groningen. Another advantage is the direct proximity to power plants.
The first data center, which is already operational, is used by Google, among others. It is not yet known whether the search giant will also move into the new data center.
