Early Build Chrome Browser Shows Website Security Information
Google added extensive website security information in an early build of its Chrome browser. Users can see which encryption is used, of both the website being visited and externally loaded content.
Ilya Grigorik, who works at Google as a developer, announced the new functionality in a post on the Google+ social network. The security feature is in a so-called Canary build of the Chrome browser; a channel the internet giant uses to release test versions of its software.
In the new Chrome build, users will see an additional header in the developer panel. This new security panel shows whether the website the user is visiting is secured with a valid encryption certificate. The security of the connection is also shown from other websites whose webpage content is displayed, for example from advertising networks.
With the new feature, Google wants to provide more insight into the security of the visited websites. It’s not clear yet when the panel will come to the Chrome builds for the general public; no further information on this has been provided.
