Publisher Electronic Arts wants to release a new Star Wars game at least every year for the next few years. This annual schedule will in any case be maintained for three to four years. Several studios are currently working on new Star Wars games.

EA will release a sequel to Star Wars: Battlefront in 2017. The new game will contain “bigger and better” worlds, according to the publisher, because the game will be based on the new Star Wars movies. The following year, a Star Wars ‘action game’, made by Visceral Games and Motive Studios, follows. Visceral is the creator of Battlefield Hardline- the Dead Space series.

Respawn Entertainment is also working on a Star Wars game. Its development was announced on May 4. EA now says that the Titanfall developer has asked to make a Star Wars game. The publisher thought that was a good idea and the studio is now working on a third-person action game. Further details are not yet known, but Respawn’s game is likely to come out after the other two titles in the works, around 2019.

There will be no new Star Wars game in 2016, although EA is planning the Star Wars: Battlefront ‘VR experience’ for the PlayStation VR. Nothing is known about its content yet, this ‘virtual reality experience’ will probably be released when the PSVR comes on the market in October.

The arrival of the new Star Wars games was announced during a meeting with investors, following the presentation of the quarterly figures. EA made more profit in the past quarter, partly due to the good sales of Star Wars: Battlefront. The game has now shipped 14 million copies.
