EA will ‘soon’ start a test with crossplay in FIFA 22. Players on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S and Google Stadia will then be able to compete against each other in Online Seasons and Online Friendlies. The test will not come to the PC version and the previous generation consoles.

It is not yet clear when the crossplay test will start, but EA writes that this will be in the near future. The developer wants to gain experience with the test for the possible implementation of crossplay in future titles. It seems that FIFA 22 will not get full crossplay, but that could appear in FIFA 23, for example.

As soon as the test starts, players on the relevant platforms will see a widget about the test in the main menu. That widget can be opened and then crossplay can be switched on. Players can also search for friends here, regardless of which platform they play on. There will also be an option in the match settings menu to enable or disable participation in the crossplay test.

The announcement of the test coincides with the release of FIFA 22 via the PlayStation Plus subscription. It also looks like the game is coming to EA Play and with it Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The addition of the game to these subscriptions could result in significant growth in the number of active players.
