With an update for F1 2021, ray tracing has been temporarily disabled in the PlayStation 5 version of the game. According to EA, some users had stability issues that were caused by ray tracing. The publisher wants to re-enable the feature as soon as possible.

With patch 1.04, ray tracing is disabled, according to the patch notes that EA has put online. That is only the case with the PlayStation 5 version. Ray tracing is still available on Xbox Series X and PC. Publisher EA and developer Codemasters say they want to re-enable the feature soon and will update it when more is known. Substantive details about the issues with the PS5 version have not been disclosed.

Raytracing will only be used in the game’s photo mode on the console versions of F1 2021, and not during the racing itself. The PC version does allow use of ray tracing during gameplay. The game also supports Nvidia’s DLSS technology on PC in combination with RTX video cards.

F1 2021 was released last week. In addition to the annual updates to cars and drivers, the game includes a new story mode called Breaking Point and a career mode with co-op. Also, players can start a career at any time based on the current standings in the real F1 championship.
