EA stops sales of Battlefield 1943 and Bad Company 2, closes servers at the end of this year
Electronics Arts is removing Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company 1 and 2, and Mirror’s Edge from digital stores starting April 28. The online components of these games will then close on December 8.
EA reports that the removal of the four games from the digital stores means that they can no longer be purchased and that this serves as preparation for the closure of the online services of the titles. Bad Company 1 and 2 and Mirror’s Edge will still be playable, although from the end of this year this will be limited to the offline parts such as the single-player campaigns.
The publisher says the Battlefield games and Mirror’s Edge hold a “special place in our hearts,” but are now looking forward to creating new memories. EA says the focus now shifts to current and future Battlefield experiences.
Battlefield 1943
Battlefield 1943 was the third title in the Battlefield series and was released in 2009 as a digital game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 only. The shooter focuses on the Second World War battle in the Pacific Ocean between the Americans and Japan, in which the Wake Island playing field was popular, among other things.
Bad Company was published in 2008 and was followed by part 2 in 2010. Both parts contain a single-player campaign with the necessary action and humor, but are also known for the multi-player part. Thanks to the Frostbite engine, the playing field could be destroyed to a large extent and Bad Company 2 in particular was praised for the graphics, the sound and the intense action.
