EA sells 15 million copies of Battlefield 3
Publisher Electronic Arts states that it has managed to sell 15 million copies of the game Battlefield 3. The gap to market leader Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is also said to have narrowed thanks to a ‘long-term strategy’.
That is what Electronic Arts CEO Frank Gibeau said in an interview with GamesIndustry. The first person shooter is said to have increased its market share lead over virtually all of its competitors in the past year, while EA also gained market share with Battlefield 3 over the number one in the genre, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. that 15 million copies of BF3 have been sold since its release in September last year.
According to Gibeau, EA’s chosen strategy succeeds in catching up with the ‘800 pound gorilla’, targeting Activision’s COD:MW3, with a sound plan spanning several years. The tactic would be similar to the one chosen for FIFA in recent years as the soccer game caught up year after year with former market leader Pro Evolution Soccer.
