EA will make available DLLs and associated source code for Command and Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and Command and Conquer: Red Alert on June 5, along with the release of Command and Conquer Remastered Collection.

TiberianDawn.dll and RedAlert.dll and their associated source code are available under a gpl 3.0 license. The source code will allow the mod community to design their own maps and units and make other changes to the games. EA reports this in a blog post.

EA has worked with the existing mod community to open up the source code and the reason for choosing the gpl license is to ensure compatibility with projects such as CnCNet and Open RA. The ability to customize parts of the games comes in addition to the Map Editor.

Petroglyph and members of the mod community have already created some of their own designs, EA reports, and among other things, a Nuke Tank will be playable via a mod upon release. What is not present with the release of Command and Conquer Remastered Collection is lan support. According to EA, this feature has been delayed due to the corona crisis but remains high on the priority list to add. EA has posted a FAQ online with questions and answers about mods related to the remaster.
