EA Lets Original Creators Remaster Command & Conquer Games
EA has asked the original makers of Command & Conquer games to take on the 4k remasters of the classic games. Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert, among others, are getting a remade version.
The Covert Ops, Counterstrike and Aftermath expansion packs are included with the base games at no additional cost, EA says. The development is in the hands of Petroglyph Games, which employs many employees who previously worked on Command & Conquer games at Westwood. In addition, Frank Klepacki will take care of the audio, just like with the classic games.
Lemon Sky Studios will also be involved in the development, due to its specialization in remastering classic games in 4k resolution. Development of the remasters has not yet started, the game publisher says. As a result, it is still unknown when the C&C games will be released. EA said last month that there would be a remaster of the strategy game, but did not give any details at the time. The first Command & Conquer appeared in 1995 by Westwood. EA bought that studio in 1998 but closed Westwood in 2003.
C&C isn’t the first game to get a remake. Age of Empires, among others, received a remaster earlier and that will also happen with Warcraft III.
