‘EA has approved revival of Fight Night boxing game series’

Electronic Arts may have approved a “revival” of the Fight Night boxing game series. Sources tell this to VGC journalist Tom Henderson, who regularly shares correct information about future EA projects.

Anonymous EA Sports sources tell VGC that the new Fight Night game has been approved and entered early development, although it has been temporarily halted. Henderson writes that development has been paused because the priority is currently on the next EA Sports UFC game, which is due to be released at the end of next year. The new Fight Night title will therefore probably have to wait ‘a few more years’. Electronic Arts declined to comment officially to VGC.

Five Fight Night titles have been released to date. The games all achieved a Metacritic score of 80 or higher, with the exception of a few handheld ports and smartphone games. The last game in the series, Fight Night Champion, was released in 2011.

In recent years, licensing complications have arisen in the boxing world, and as a result EA has mainly focused on UFC, writes VGC. However, fans and boxers are said to have called for EA to return the series and EA is “aware of the demand,” sources tell the medium.
