EA ends its first moba game Dawngate

Electronic Arts has decided to stop developing the moba game Dawngate. The company believes that insufficient progress is being made. The open beta of the game is still a month and a half to play.

EA, on the other hand, believes that a game has been developed in collaboration with developer Waystone Games that is not a copy of the popular moba games. Dawngate is said to have “advanced” the genre in several ways. What this means, however, is unclear. Players who spent money on the beta will be able to claim back the full amount. That would happen in the next ten days. The studio that developed the game within EA, Waystone, is being dismantled, writes GameInformer after inquiring about the future of the studio.

EA announced the game almost a year and a half ago. The publisher was relatively unfamiliar with the genre at the time and EA said it was aware of the competitive market. For example, League of Legends, which attracted about 12 million players a day, and Dota 2 were popular. Dawngate was privately tested a year and a half ago, and an open beta of the game was released about six months ago. Based on the experience gained during that test period, it was decided to pull the plug on the project.
