Electronic Arts nearly doubled its quarterly revenue last year from a year earlier, a better result than the company had expected. The increase is mainly due to the popularity of FIFA and Apex Legends.

Second quarter revenue was $1.851 billion or 1.6 billion euros, EA writes in its report. That is almost double the turnover that it made a year ago. The fiscal year ended at $7 billion, $2.5 billion more than 2020. Net income for the quarter was $294 million, compared to $185 million a year ago.

Electronic Arts says that FIFA games and shooter Apex Legends in particular contributed significantly to the increase in sales. In the first six months of the year, about 100 million players played the game of football. Two new seasons for Apex Legends were also released, which resulted in a record number of players. The freemium mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes also proved popular; 100 million people have played that game so far. EA also says it expects a lot from Battlefield 2042, which will be released later this year. The publisher expects many players there, especially during the holidays.
