Publisher Electronic Arts has officially confirmed that Battlefield 4 is in development. The existence of the game was already leaked last weekend, because an advertisement for Medal of Honor: Warfighter came online too early.

A few days after an ad mentioning Battlefield 4 went online for a short time too early, publisher Electronic Arts has officially confirmed the new shooter from development studio DICE. While it is not yet clear when the game will be released or even for which platforms the shooter is in development, the company has already announced that the Battlefield 4 beta test will take place in the fall of 2013. Therefore, it seems likely that the game itself will be released around November 2013.

The announcement of the beta test is related to a promotion that Electronic Arts has launched for shooter Medal of Honor: Warfighter, which hits stores this fall. Gamers who purchase the Limited Edition of Medal of Honor: Warfighter will receive guaranteed access to the Battlefield 4 beta test next year. More information about that game will be announced at a later time, Electronic Arts reported in a statement sent on Tuesday.

Although DICE is already working on Battlefield 4, the end of Battlefield 3 is far from in sight, according to the developer. According to the studio, that game is even “only at the beginning of its story.” With Armored Kill, End Game, and Aftermath, three more major expansion packs are on the way for Battlefield 3.

With the action, Medal of Honor: Warfighter follows in the footsteps of Medal of Honor, which appeared at the end of 2010. The Limited Edition of that game provided consumers with access to the Battlefield 3 beta test.
