EA Changes Star Wars Battlefront II Progression System Effective March 21
EA has announced a change to Battlefront II’s progression system, effective March 21. Star Cards and other items that affect gameplay can then only be earned through play. Microtransactions return for cosmetic items.
EA writes that players of the Star Wars game can, for example, collect experience points through different classes or heroes to reach higher levels. For each level, players receive a Skill Point, which can then be exchanged to obtain or upgrade Star Cards. This doesn’t mean players will lose everything they’ve built up to this point; they may keep all earned items such as Star Cards and Heroes regardless of progression.
Loot Crates are also undergoing a change. They only contain Credits or cosmetic items, so no more Star Cards. Moreover, they can only be earned by logging in daily or by completing certain challenges, for example. From April it will be possible to purchase new appearances with Credits or Crystals. The latter are for sale, including in the game itself.
EA has posted a FAQ online about the upcoming changes, stating that players will no longer receive Parts after the update. Players will keep these and will be able to convert them into Skill Points in a ratio of 40:1 starting in April. Parts can also no longer be used to create Star Cards.
EA’s announcement further states that in addition to balance patches, new modes will also be released in the coming months. These must be fundamentally different from the game elements currently present, the company claims.
The current changes were already announced by EA in January, without giving any further details. The company had decided to disable microtransactions in the game just before release, although it said at the time that it was a temporary measure. This came after much criticism of the fact that real money purchases gave an advantage in the game.
