EA cancels E3 press conference and announces own Play eventeven
Electronic Arts will not hold a press conference during this year’s E3 games fair. Instead, the publisher will be announcing its new games at its own Play event the weekend before the show. Sony previously announced that it would skip E3.
EA is organizing its Play event for the fourth time just before the start of the E3 fair, but it is the first time that the publisher has not held a press conference at the fair itself. EA will be holding its event from June 7-9 at a location in Hollywood, near the E3 trade show, which kicks off June 11 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
During the first two days of EA Play, the publisher will launch multiple live streams in which games will be announced. The streams will also provide background information about games and the developers. At the location itself, visitors can get started with new games.
The EA Play event is open to everyone for a fee. The E3 game fair is traditionally only intended for media and people from the game industry, but last year the organization also made a limited number of tickets available to the public. Also this year there are tickets for sale for gamers.
Sony announced last year that it would not be present at E3 and that it would not hold a press conference. It is the first time that Sony has skipped the stock exchange that has existed since 1995. Sony said it was “looking for new inventive ways to interact with the community.” As far as is known, Sony does not have its own event in the same period.
