Valve has added the promised DualShock 4 support to Steam. Not only does the PS4 controller now work with Steam, but the functions of the buttons can also be customized, just like with the Steam Controller. The gyroscope and touchpad can also be used and adjusted.

The PS4 controller now works basically the same as the Steam Controller, thanks to the use of the same api. In addition to the DualShock 4 compatibility, Valve has made many other changes and additions to controllers. The company explains this in the changelog. In addition to the controller updates, Valve promises that downloading and patching games on mechanical HDDs will now be faster.

Valve is going to give even more controllers the same treatment, but will start with the DualShock 4 because it has a lot of overlap with the Steam Controller and the existing support is “weak” according to Valve. The company stated this during a presentation in October. It is not yet clear which controllers will follow and when.
