Dropbox photo application lets users automatically delete backed up photos

Dropbox has updated its photo service Carousel. It is therefore possible to have photos and videos automatically deleted when they have already been uploaded to Dropbox. That should make it easier to free up space on a mobile device.

The new feature will be rolled out immediately via an update to the mobile apps, Engadget discovered. After the update, the software will automatically recognize which photos and videos on the smartphone or tablet have already been uploaded to Dropbox. As a result, the user can delete all image material on the internal memory that is already stored with the cloud service at the push of a button.

With the quick deletion of already backed up photos in Carousel, parent company Dropbox seems to want to make it easier to free up space on the internal storage of mobile devices. It has been possible for some time to automatically upload photos to Dropbox. The photo management service Carousel was released earlier this year and is a standalone software that gives the user an overview of photos and videos stored with Dropbox. Recently, Dropbox made its Carousel service available for the web and iPad.
