Download Driver For Nvidia Linux Display Driver 180.06 Beta

Nvidia developers released a new set of beta drivers for Linux a few days ago with 180.06 as the version number this time. The Linux Display Drivers have been released for Linux x86, Linux amd64/em64t, Freebsd x86 and Solaris x86/x64 and mainly add support for Cuda 2.1. The corresponding list of customizations looks like this:

Release Highlights:

• Added support for CUDA 2.1.
• Added initial support for PureVideo-like features on Linux via the new VDPAU API (see the vdpau.h header file installed with the driver).
• Added new workstation performance optimizations.
• Enabled the X Render “GlyphCache” by default.
• Disabled shared memory X pixmaps by default; see the “AllowSHMPixmaps” option.
• Fixed a regression that could result in window decoration corruption when running Compiz using Geforce 6 and 7 series GPUs.
• Improved X pixmap placement on GeForce 8 series and later GPUs.
• Improved stability on some GeForce 8 series and newer GPUs.

Linux:

• Improved compatibility with recent Linux kernels.

FreeBSD:

• Updated the X driver to properly detect/report the system’s ACPI power state (AC/battery).
• If you are using FreeBSD 6.x, you will need to make sure that the ‘compat5x’ package is installed.
• The ‘nvidia-settings’ utility can be built from source if the binary included in the 180.06.tar.gz package doesn’t work (eg due to a ports/ library version conflict).
