Nvidia developers have released a new whql version of their Geforce drivers, identified by version number 178.24. According to the list of changes provided, bugs have mainly been addressed for the XP and Vista drivers, allowing gamers among us to continue playing with peace of mind without seeing minor irregularities here and there. The list of changes of this latest whql version looks like this:

What’s New in Version 178.24:

  • This driver version adds support for NVIDIA PhysX acceleration on all GeForce 8‐series, 9‐series and 200‐series GPUs with a minimum of 256MB dedicated graphics memory (this driver package installs NVIDIA PhysX System Software v8.09.04).
  • Added support for the following motherboard GPU products:
    • GeForce 9400
    • GeForce 9300
    • GeForce 9200
    • nForce 760i SLI

Fixed Issues–Windows XP 32-bit

Single GPU Issues:

  • The NVIDIA Control Panel incorrectly treats a display connected through the DVI-HDMI dongle as an HDTV. [468655]
  • GeForce 8300/8400/8500: When playing a DVD‐RAM (VR disc) with WinDVD, the overlay color is abnormal. [462673]

Fixed Issues–Windows XP 64-bit

Single GPU Issues:

  • GeForce 6600: World in Conflict – the game menu flickers when 16x or 8xS antialiasing is set from the NVIDIA Control Panel. [469814]

Fixed Issues–Windows Vista 32-bit

Single GPU Issues:

  • The NVIDIA Control Panel incorrectly treats a display connected through the DVI-HDMI dongle as an HDTV. [468655]
  • GeForce 9800 GTX: The NVIDIA Control Panel shows the display as a DVI instead of HDMI when using a DVI-to-HDMI cable adapter. [445169]
  • GeForce 8300/8400/8500: When resuming from Sleep mode, the screen colors become abnormal for a few seconds. [466207]

  • [Hybrid SLI]nForce 780a/750a, GeForce 8300/8400/8500: The NVIDIA Hybrid SLI Graphics icon is not available in the Windows control panel classic view. [465750]

Fixed Issues–Windows Vista 64-bit

Multi-GPU Issues:

  • [Hybrid SLI]nForce 780a/750a, GeForce GTX 260/280: The screen turns blank with only the cursor visible when transitioning from Boost performance mode to Save power mode. [462265]
