ATi has released new drivers for the Linux platform in the form of version 8.42.3. The drivers have not yet been officially made available by ATi, but were found after this review appeared on Phoronix. icyx has left the following in the submit about the new Linux Drivers: “After thirteen months, ATi finally succeeded: there is support for AIGLX added to the new ATi Linux Drivers. The drivers are from this server as version 8.42.3 for AMD64 systems. Since ATI’s closed source drivers did not support this feature until thirteen months after competitor nVidia, many people have lost hope of improving the drivers. This must be that improvement. The performance should go up a lot, as well as the options in the driver’s graphics manager. Indeed, a quick test gives me a performance boost, as well as smooth collaboration with the latest stable X.org release. Kernel 2.6.23 doesn’t work, however, according to the issues in the article.” ATi will probably make the official announcement soon.
