Download Driver For ATI Catalyst Linux Display Driver 8.9

Spread the love

AMD has released new Linux drivers for its ATi Radeon graphics cards. The download is 63MB in size and can be used for both 32bit and 64bit environments. Version 8.9 of the Catalyst Linux Display Driver supports versions 6.7 through 7.3 of X.org, Linux kernel 2.6 and above, and glibc 2.2 or 2.3. Linux kernel 2.4 and Xfree86 4.3 are no longer supported. The last version to do that was version 8.42.3. Version 8.9 of the Linux drivers adds two new Linux distributions to the ever-growing list of supported operating systems and further reveals the now-known list of bug fixes and known issues:

Known Issues

  • SUSE 10.3 32-bit: The operating system mail fail to respond when pressing “Ctrl+Alt+F7/F8” to switch sessions when “fgl_glxgears” is running.
  • SUSE 10.3 or RHEL 5.1: The operating system may fail occasionally to respond when running fgl_glxgears.
  • RHEL 5.1 32-bit/64-bit and SUSE 10.3 32-bit/64-bit: The operating system may fail to launch after the installation of the graphics driver.
  • Undefined symbols may be noticed when trying to load fglrx on Ubuntu 8.10.
  • Softimage XSI Ariane x64: A segmentation fault may occur when loading the application.
  • SPECViewperf 8.1: Running the standard DPPT tests may intermittently result in RHEL 5.2 operating system failing to respond on systems containing an ATI FireGL V7700 series of product.
  • Poor performance may intermittently be noticed when running GTKperf on systems containing an ATI Radeon HD 38×0 or newer product.
  • Playing a video file under X may result in the player displaying a blank image and the audio being choppy.
  • Setting the display resolution to 1600×600 on a system running SUSE 10.3 (32/64bit) or RHEL 5.1 (32/64bit) may result in only half of the image being displayed.
  • The system may hard hang when logging on to the X Server after the installation of the driver package.
  • Entering a standby state while running a 3D application may result in desktop corruption being noticed when resuming the system.
