Download Driver For ATi Catalyst 5.5

ATi has just posted Catalyst drivers version 5.5 on its website. It is striking that these are only for Windows XP and not, as has always been the case, also for Windows 2000. Confusingly, however, is that there is “xp-w2k” in the file name of the download. Whether they really do not work under Windows 2000 is therefore not entirely clear, but if a specific search is made for drivers for this OS, version 5.4 is offered as a download. The Catalyst drivers are available as usual of or without the Catalyst Control Center. Below is a summary of the issues fixed in this release and those already known to our Canadian friends:

Issues Resolved in Catalyst 5.5

  • 3DMark05: Running the application under Windows XP for extended periods of time no longer results in the operating system failing to respond when using an ATI Radeon X700 PRO
  • Ashli ​​Viewer sample Wood: Display corruption is no longer noticed when Anisotropic Filtering set to 4x or above
  • Ashli ​​Viewer v1.6.0: Running the application under Windows 2000 and launching a sample item found in the Programs & Shaders no longer results in corruption being displayed in the sample item
  • City of Heros: Playing the game under Windows XP with an ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series installed no longer results in the characters in the game appearing corrupted

  • Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2: Setting the graphic option in the Catalyst Control Center to Optimal Quality, followed by launching the game and setting the resolution option to 1600×1200, no longer results in a performance drop being noticed
  • Star Wars Knights of the old republic: Loading the Dantooine level of the game under Windows XP no longer results in slow game performance
  • Setting the desktop display to 800×600 or 1600×1200 16/32bpp no ​​longer results in the incorrect display resolution information being provided when checking the video control panel in the Catalyst Control Center
  • Setting the display device to 1080i no longer results in the text on the custom format being illegal

  • Having a TV and CRT connected and clicking on Preview Automatic adjustment in the Optimize Media Center no longer results in both display devices displaying a black screen

Known Issues for Catalyst 5.5

  • Farcry: Playing the game under Windows XP SP2 with the display set to 1024x76832bpp along with AA disabled results in flashing textures being noticed when setting the game’s video options to high detail.   • Half-Life 2: Having the display set to 1024×768 32bpp and setting the video options in the game set to 1600×1200 and all other options set to their maximum values ​​results in sluggish performance and missing textures. Topic number 737-10086
  • Rainbow six3: Athena Sword: Playing the game under Windows 2000 with an ATI Radeon X700 installed results in the game failing to retain its resolution option of 1600×1200 if you Alt-tab out of the game and then Alt-tab back to the game. Topic number 737-535
