Download Driver For AMD Catalyst Linux Display Driver 12.4
AMD is also releasing new Linux drivers for its Radeon video cards at the same time as drivers for Windows. The download is just over 100MB in size, but can be used in both 32 and 64bit environments. Version 12.4 is compatible with Radeon HD 2400 and higher, the FireStream 9170, 9250 and 9270, and the embedded E2400 and E4690. In addition, versions 6.9 through 7.6 of X.org, Linux kernel 2.6 and above, and glibc versions 2.2 and 2.3 are supported. AMD has stopped supplying release notes with the Linux driver for quite some time, but Phoronix was able to obtain the following information:
AMD Catalyst 12.4 Linux Graphics Driver Released
As usual, AMD still isn’t providing a change-log for the monthly Linux Catalyst driver releases. However, here’s some details I do know about this month’s driver…
There’s now openSUSE 12.1 production support, early-look support for Ubuntu 12.04, Linux PowerXpress support for the Intel Ivy Bridge platform, packaging script updates, and various bug-fixes.
Among the bug-fixes for Catalyst 12.4 on Linux is fixing some multi-head issues, a system hang in certain PowerXpress configurations, fixing a system hang when using OpenGL overlays, correcting an OpenGL performance drop, a soft-hang when killing the X Server , and severe corruption for OpenGL games using the AMD “Redwood” graphics processors.
