Download Driver For AMD Catalyst Linux Display Driver 12.3

Spread the love

AMD is also releasing new Linux drivers for its Radeon video cards at the same time as drivers for Windows. The download is just over 100MB in size, but can be used in both 32 and 64bit environments. Version 12.3 is compatible with Radeon HD 2400 and higher, the FireStream 9170, 9250 and 9270, and the embedded E2400 and E4690. In addition, versions 6.9 through 7.6 of X.org, Linux kernel 2.6 and above, and glibc versions 2.2 and 2.3 are supported. AMD has stopped supplying release notes with the Linux driver for quite some time, but Phoronix was able to obtain the following information:

AMD Catalyst 12.3 For Linux Officially Released

Catalyst 12.3 isn’t too interesting in terms of features or bug fixes, and it doesn’t have X.Org Server 1.12 support. However, Phoronix readers have already been quick to spot this driver’s availability and have begun discussing it in the forums.

Most die-hard Linux enthusiasts relying upon the binary driver with ATI/AMD Radeon hardware are likely already using the early Catalyst 12.4 betas for Linux, which at least carries a few more changes over this month’s official driver update.

the AMD Radeon HD 7950 under Linux is working fine with Catalyst 12.3 and I have more Linux OpenGL results from this GCN Southern Islands card to publish in the coming days.
