Download Driver For AMD Catalyst Linux Display Driver 12.2

Spread the love

AMD is also releasing new Linux drivers for its Radeon video cards at the same time as drivers for Windows. The download is just over 100MB in size but can be used in both 32 and 64bit environments. Version 12.2 is compatible with Radeon HD 2400 and higher, the FireStream 9170, 9250 and 9270, and the embedded E2400 and E4690. In addition, versions 6.9 through 7.6 of X.org, Linux kernel 2.6 and later, and glibc versions 2.2 and 2.3 are supported. AMD has stopped supplying release notes with the Linux driver for quite some time, but Phoronix was able to obtain the following information:

AMD Catalyst 12.2 For Linux Brings Few Changes

AMD has released their belated Catalyst 12.2 Linux driver. Unfortunately, it’s not too exciting of a release.

AMD still also doesn’t publish the Linux release notes on the driver, but the changes that come to mind due to my encounters with the non-public development Catalyst drivers is that the 12.2 release stream isn’t too exciting. There’s various packaging script updates for different Linux distributions (as found on Phorogit), Radeon HD 7000 series support improvements, and a few bug fixes. One bug-fix that is of interest to several Phoronix readers is one concerning X-Video playback.

What’s not found in the Catalyst 12.2 driver is X.Org Server 1.12 support. There’s also still not proper Radeon HD 7000 series “Southern Islands” support across the released hardware. just for the Radeon HD 7950 that I’m testing under Linux and has been available for a while already, currently with the fglrx 8.95 release stream, it’s still advertised as “unsupported hardware” via the pesky AMD watermark.
