Drained press release confirms cooperation between Panasonic, Leica and Sigma
The generally reliable Japanese blog Nokishita has published a leaked press release in which Panasonic, Leica and Sigma confirm their collaboration around a new full frame camera system for the Leica L concept.
Nokishita has a link to the press release posted on their own Twitter account. In the message, the three companies confirm their cooperation around the L-mount developed by Leica, although they do not yet mention concrete new products. The existing Leica SL Typ 601 camera already uses this lens mount.
Sigma reports that it participates in the alliance because of the possibility to develop system cameras that use the flange distance of the L-mount. This distance between the objectives and the sensor is 20 mm, which corresponds to the flange distance of, for example, the Canon RF mount of the new Canon EOS R full-frame camera.
According to earlier rumors Panasonic announces two new full-frame cameras on Tuesday afternoon. for the Leica L mount. Rumor’s website L-rumors reports on the basis of unconfirmed information that it is a camera with a resolution of 24 megapixel and a more expensive, high-end model with a resolution of 48 megapixel.
Both cameras get the rumors a 4k-60fps movie function and a stabilized image sensor. The top model would get a pixel shifting mode that allows photographs to be taken in a 150-megapixel resolution. Nothing is known yet about the Sigma cameras.
