Developer Bethesda has released a patch for the game Doom on the Nintendo Switch, giving players the option to play the shooter via the motion controls of, for example, the Joy-Con controller.

The addition of the motion controls support was noticed by a gamer on Twitter, among others. He posted a screenshot from Doom’s main menu on the Switch, showing that control options like motion sensitivity and motion aiming are available as settings. Several gamers report in a Resetera forum topic that the new controls work well.

The controls are similar to Splatoon 2 on the Switch, with the left joystick being used to move from left to right, while moving the right Joy-Con can be used to aim. In mobile mode without a dock, moving the Switch allows you to look around or aim the sight.

In addition to the option of motion controls added with patch 1.1.1, Bethesda reports that Doom’s average resolution has improved in areas of the game that are less demanding. In addition, CPU optimizations would have been implemented. Several bugs have also been fixed, including audio bugs that would cause crackling sounds, issues with stretched textures, and non-functioning control buttons.

Bethesda reports that in addition to the ‘in-demand’ motion control option, a new group system has now been added for the multiplayer portion, making it easier for users to play with friends. A new game icon has also been added to the main menu of the game, which corresponds to the image on the front of the Doom box for the Switch.
