Doom creator John Romero is working on a new shooter with Unreal Engine 5
Game developer John Romero is working on a new first person shooter. It is a new IP that is being developed by Romero Games and runs in the Unreal Engine 5. It is not yet known when the game should be released.
Romero announces on Twitter that he has his own studio Romero Games working on a new fps. He is in fact looking for people for ‘different positions’ within his company. He specifically looks for people who have experience with Unreal Engine 5. On the Romero Games website are vacancies for programmers, but the studio is also looking for designers and animators, for example.
Furthermore, Romero does not want to say much about his new game. The message does state that he is collaborating with an unknown publisher. It is also not clear when the game should be finished or what kind of setting the game will have.
Romero is a well-known figure from the game industry. He is co-founder of the studio id Software and has worked on fps games like Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein 3D. Romero left the studio in 1996, but continued to make games. He founded a new studio with colleagues from id Software: Ion Storm, he left the studio in 2001.
In 2015 he founded his own game studio Romero Games with his wife. The studio previously released Empire of Sin. In addition, the studio has released a free expansion for the original Doom and is still working on a sequel.
