Bethesda has released an update to the re-release versions of the original Doom and Doom II released last year. This includes support for 60fps and a number of other improvements.

Bethesda, through a community manager, gives an explanation of all the innovations that the update brings on its own forum. One of the most notable improvements is 60fps support across all platforms. When the Doom, Doom II, and Doom 3 conversions came out for Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS last year, the 35fps cap was maintained. On the Nintendo Switch, the 60fps support means a resolution of 640×400 pixels and the battery life would also improve. PC players aren’t left empty-handed this time; the re-releases are now also coming to PC along with the update via the Bethesda.net launcher.

The games will also receive support for add-ons, which can be downloaded for free from the main menus in the games. These include community-created episodes and megawads released before the original Doom games, including TnT: Evilution and The Plutonia Experiment. In addition, players can also download last year’s Sigil, the unofficial fifth megawad episode created by John Romero. According to Bethesda, more wads will gradually become available for download.

Other innovations include the addition of a weapon carousel, so players don’t have to go through their entire armor set to select the firearm they want. Also, there is now an aspect ratio option to be able to select the original 4:3 ratio. Furthermore, quick saves and quickloads have been added and players can select the level they want directly, without having to go through all previous levels first.
