The Doom 64 re-release includes a completely new chapter. Developer Nightdive makes this known in an interview. The reissue uses the KEX engine, which was previously deployed for an unofficial PC port.

The new chapter continues after Doom 64’s original campaign, the developers tell USGamer. After defeating Mother Demon, players must face that boss’s sister. It is unknown how long the extra chapter will last.

The port of Doom 64 is made by Nightdive on behalf of Bethesda. Samuel Villarreal is the lead engine developer there and he made the KEX engine. He previously used it for the unofficial PC port Doom 64 EX. The engine was already used by Nightdive for porting other classics such as Turok, Forsaken and Blood. Among other things, the engine offers support for high frame rates.

The new version of Doom 64 was announced at the same time as Doom Eternal and will also be released simultaneously. The game originally appeared in 1997 for the Nintendo 64 and is a sequel to Doom II. The Doom 64 re-release will be available to purchase separately for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Playstation 4 starting March 20. The classic is included for free with the Doom Eternal pre-order.
