Donor site Patreon is working on a service for offering merchandise
Donor Service Patreon is working on a way for people with a Patreon page to offer merchandise to people who support them through the site. That’s already happening, but handling is done outside of Patreon.
Many Patreon page holders already offer merchandise with certain subscriptions, but with the new system the company wants to take the work off their hands, Patreon writes. Details of the service are not yet available, but presumably there will be a deal with a maker of merchandise, after which page holders can easily have products produced there, while those can easily be added and possibly sent in the backend.
The merchandise service should come online later this year, the company says. There are now more than 100,000 Patreon page holders and a total of three million donors, the company reports. This year, Patreon expects to pay out a total of half a billion dollars to people seeking financial support through Patreon.
Patreon is a site where creators, often artists, musicians, illustrators or creators of podcasts or videos, can ask for a monthly financial contribution. People who want to support them often get benefits in return, such as access to exclusive content.
