DJI: US customers can continue to use drones despite trade ban
DJI drones will remain for sale in the United States for the time being, despite the trade ban. That says the manufacturer in a response to the placement of the company on the American ‘Entity List’. Users can continue to use the drones.
DJI says in a response to Techcrunch that nothing will change for the time being. “US customers can continue to buy and use drones.” DJI says it remains committed to developing drones and says it is disappointed with the US government’s choice to ban US companies with DJI. It was announced on Friday that DJI will be blacklisted.
It is unknown what the exact consequences will be. It is obvious that from now on American retailers are no longer allowed to purchase drones from DJI and therefore can no longer sell them when stocks are exhausted. In addition, American suppliers are no longer allowed to supply parts to DJI.
The drone manufacturer has been blacklisted because the company is said to have enabled widespread human rights violations in China, says a committee of the US Department of Commerce. According to the committee, this concerns high-tech surveillance. The Ministry does not go into detail on how that would have happened. Chip manufacturer SMIC is now also on the list.
The entity list is a list of individuals and companies with which US companies and companies using US government technology are not allowed to trade. A year and a half ago, Huawei entered that list, which means it is no longer allowed to put Google services on Android smartphones.
