DJI Introduces Stabilized Handheld 4K Camera with Optical Zoom
DJI comes with a new version of the stabilized handheld camera Osmo. Just like its predecessor, the Osmo+ has a 12-megapixel sensor on board that allows filming in 4k resolution, but the lens has been replaced by a copy with a 3.5x optical zoom.
Like the first Osmo, the DJI Osmo+ consists of a motorized gimbal, which provides image stabilization over three axes, combined with a round camera. The first version has a lens with a fixed focal point, the new model has a zoom lens with 3.5x optical zoom. In 1080p resolution, 7x zoom is possible, by applying an additional 2x digital zoom to the image. According to DJI, this does not result in any loss of quality.
The range of the lens is 22-77mm, converted to 35mm equivalent. Presumably, DJI uses the same lens as in the Zenmuse Z3, which was presented last month. That separate camera can only be combined with the drones of the manufacturer and cannot be mounted on the Osmo stabilizer.
DJI uses a Sony Exmor R cmos sensor of the 1/2.3″ format in the camera. Filming is possible in 4k resolution of 4096×2160 with 24 or 25fps. At the UHD resolution of 3840×2160 pixels, 30fps is also possible. a 2.7K resolution of 2704×1520 pixels available at 30, 25 and 24fps.In full HD format, a speed of up to 100fps is possible for slow-motion images. The maximum bitrate of the videos is 60Mbit/s.
An Android or iOS smartphone can be used as a ‘viewfinder’ by synchronizing the Osmo+ with the DJI Go app. The image from the camera can then be seen on the screen of the smartphone. The smartphone can be clicked into the supplied holder. The Osmo+ is available from September and has a suggested retail price of 749 euros. This makes the price equal to the introductory price of the original Osmo. That model now costs 689 euros at DJI.
