DJI files patent for rover with camera
DJI has filed a patent application for what appears to be a rover with a camera on it. The driving device has four large wheels, and on top is a gimbal that stabilizes a camera. It is not clear whether the device is really intended for production and when it will be released.
The patent for the rover has been filed in DJI’s home country of China. It was first spotted by DroneDJ, although the site does not link to the patent itself. The rover is a small car with four large wheels that can rotate 360 degrees, according to DroneDJ. The wheels are separated from the camera section of the rover by means of mechanical arms that can move in all directions. The camera then rests on it via a platform, so that the rover can keep the camera stable. According to DroneDJ, the camera can be adjusted in height. It would be a Zenmuse camera, which is interchangeable with the cameras from other DJI drones. The battery in the rover is said to be the same as that of DJI’s Matrice drones.
In addition to the rover, DroneDJ also spotted a patent for a new shrouded camera gimbal that resembles a smaller version of the Ronin 2. It would also involve a Zenmuse camera, which appears to be interchangeable. The levers on the side have buttons and wheels with which the camera can be further operated. It is not yet known whether the rover and the new gimbal will actually be in production, and when they would appear at what price.
