Disney wants two Star Wars games a year
Disney wants two Star Wars games to be released every year. That reports journalist Tom Henderson citing sources. It would be a large AAA game and a smaller game per fiscal year. Now there are at least eight Star Wars games in development.
With larger titles, one should think of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the successor to Jedi: Fallen Order. This game is expected to be released in March 2023. Another example of a major game, according to Henderson, is Star Wars: Eclipse, a Quantic Dream game that according to his sources won’t be released until 2026 due to engine issues. EA is also working on a shooter and Ubisoft on an open world game.
Examples of smaller titles are mobile games or Star Wars: Squadrons. The latter is a first-person multiplayer game in which gamers compete against each other in starfighters. In addition, Henderson says he has heard rumors about a game based on the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
From 2012 to 2021, EA was the only developer allowed to create AAA games based on the Star Wars universe. Last year, that license appeared to have come to an end, when Ubisoft announced that The Division developer Massive Entertainment was in the works for the Star Wars open world game. All Star Wars games are now under the Lucasfilm Games brand. Lucasfilm would be ready to release the desired two games per year, according to Henderson.
