Disney + is the new streaming service from Disney
Disney is as we now know pulling back from the agreements with other streaming services like Netflix and working on a private service. This new streaming service now also has a name . Disney + will be launched at the end of 2019, in addition to the current offer of Disney films and series, a number of new titles will also be launched.
The entertainment industry is doing well. And of course also with Disney, which among other things owns Star Wars, Marvel National Geographic, and Pixar.
Good performance
The past quarter and the fiscal year were closed with good figures, as recently announced. This was mainly due to the successes of Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Avengers: Infinity War and Incredibles 2. In addition, we also have the successful Disney Channel and sports channel ESPN.
Loki
During the announcement of the financial results, it was also officially announced that a new series is now based on Loki from the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Probably Tom Hiddleston creeps back into the skin of Thor’s half-brother. And more is not yet known. It is unlikely that the series will elaborate on the Marvel film series. So possibly we get an origin story. But that is for now only guessing. More info will certainly become known at a later date.
Star Wars
It is also known that there are not 1 but 2 series that take place in the Star Wars Universe. The Mandalorian had of course already been announced. The series takes place according to the text between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, so after the fall of The Empire but before the rise of The First Order. We follow a loner who makes his arms speak far beyond the authority of the New Republic at the edge of the universe.
The other Star Wars live-action series revolves around Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, a protagonist in the movie Rogue One: A Sar Wars Story. The series takes place in the years leading up to the film and is probably about the beginning of the rebels.
Whether both series are simultaneously available at the go-live of the new service is still unclear.
Continue without Netflix
Disney will therefore compete Netflix from the end of 2019 onwards. The big question here is whether they will succeed in monthly new content as Netflix does. Of course, they already have a large number available, but these are mainly films that have already been watched by many people or fans. With a new Marvel series and new Star Wars content, they reach at least 2 large groups of fans who are eager to see the new series. But whether that will also lead to success in the long term.
