Disney+ has over 100 million subscribers
Disney+ streaming service now has more than 100 million paid subscribers worldwide. The Walt Disney Company does not give an exact number. The streaming service started in November 2019 and is now available in 59 countries.
When Disney+ had exactly one hundred million subscribers, The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek does not say. As of January 2, the company had 94.9 million subscribers. Chapek says that because of the “huge success” of the streaming service, Disney wants to invest more in producing series and videos. The company aims to release more than 100 new titles per year. These include animated, live-action, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic films and series. The direct-to-consumer division, which includes Disney+, is now Disney’s top priority, Chapek said.
A year ago, there were about 30 million Disney+ subscribers. The increase from thirty million to one hundred million mainly took place in the six months between April and October. Then the service increased from 33.5 million to 86.6 million users. Netflix also had a good year in 2020, although the increase with 37 million new subscribers over the entire year was a lot smaller than at Disney+. Netflix said it had 203 million subscribers at the time. Disney wants to have 230 to 260 million subscribers in three years.
