Discovery+ will be available in parts of Europe on LG smart TVs from 2018
Discovery+ will be available as an app to European users on 2018 and newer LG smart TVs. These are televisions that run the webOS 4.0 operating system. Availability is still limited to a number of unnamed European countries.
FlatpanelsHD says it can confirm based on LG and users that the app will be released in several European countries, but the website is not yet able to publish a definitive list of the countries. The discovery+ app is only available for 2018 LG smart TVs running webOS version 4.0 or higher. LG TVs with webOS 3.0, such as the C7 OLED TVs from 2017, are fishing behind the net.
In the United States and Canada, the discovery+ app has been available for LG TVs since late 2021 and early 2022. The app was previously available in Europe on platforms other than webOS, such as Android TV.
It was recently announced that discovery+ will eventually be merged with the HBO Max app, but it is not yet clear when exactly that will happen. This merger is related to the proposed merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery. That merger was announced in the spring of 2021, but nothing was said at the time about merging the two services. WarnerMedia’s goal with the merger is to acquire discovery+. HBO Max is under WarnerMedia.
