Chat platform Discord has moved away from its focus on gaming. Instead, the platform aims to become a more general communication platform. The platform is also undergoing some changes. For example, it becomes easier to create a new server.

Discord CEO Jason Citron announced the company’s decision in a blog post. Citron reports that games are the reason many members originally came to the platform. However, many people now use the platform as a place to “just hang out and talk in the comfort of their own communities and friends,” Citron writes.

According to the CEO, Discord is therefore increasingly used for things other than gaming, which means that the branding of Discord no longer applies. Of course, Discord can still be used to chat while playing games, but that is no longer the focus. The platform is also undergoing some changes to improve the ease of use of the app.

For example, the company has ‘streamlined’ the user experience for new users. Also, users will soon be able to use standard templates for a new server to simplify the process of setting up a server. Furthermore, several bugs have been fixed, and the voice and video capacity of the platform has been increased.

The website of the chat platform has also changed. Previously, the platform used the url ‘discordapp.com’, but it has been changed to ‘discord.com’. The tagline of the app has also been changed to ‘Your place to talk’ and the jokes that have been processed in the app are now less focused on games.
