Director: Twitter will probably never have a function to edit tweets
Twitter will ‘probably never’ get an edit button to remove typos from tweets. That says founder and director Jack Dorsey in a video from Wired. Twitter considered it, but ultimately didn’t go through with the idea.
Dorsey says in the video, in which he answers questions from Twitter users, that Twitter has considered giving users 30 seconds or a minute to reread a tweet. “But that also means that we have to postpone the publication of the tweet. Because if it is online, people will see it.” That Twitter was working on that, Dorsey said last year. It was not yet known that the feature has been canceled.
According to Dorsey, the biggest problem lies in retweets. “If someone retweets your tweet and you completely change the message of the tweet an hour later, someone has a tweet on their timeline that is completely different from what they retweeted. So that’s something to watch out for.” An edit button to fix typos or broken links in tweets has been one of the most requested features on Twitter for years.
