Digital Foundry: consumption of new version Nintendo Switch is much lower

The new version of the Nintendo Switch has a power consumption that is often 40 to 50 percent lower than the original version when gaming. That’s what Digital Foundry claims. The new Switch has, among other things, a different screen and updated processor compared to the first variant.

Digital Foundry shows in a video that the new version of the Switch in the racing game Fast RMX often consumes around 6 or 7W, while the same game is around 12 or 13W at the same point with the original Switch.

The written review shows that the battery lasts about 78 percent longer at full screen brightness. Nintendo already claimed that the battery life of the revision is much better than that of the original variant. The overhaul has a revamped version of the Nvidia Tegra X1 soc, T214 Mariko. TSMC makes it using a 16nm FinFet process, instead of the older 20nm. It also features lpddr4x memory, instead of lpddr4 memory. In addition, the screen is different, concludes Digital Foundry. It may be Sharp igzo LCDs.

Nintendo previously said that the new Switch will be available in September. It would have a different box, with a lot more red on the front than that of the original Switch. In terms of features, nothing else has changed on the portable game console.
