A new version of the DigiD app for iOS has been released that makes it possible to perform an ID check by means of NFC. This is necessary for logging in to some services. Until now, the feature only worked in the Android version.

ID check only works when using iPhones with iOS 13 or newer, Logius reports. In that version of the operating system, Apple has given developers more options for using the NFC reader. As a result, the function of the DigiD app to scan identity documents now also works on iPhones.

Users get more options if they add proof of identity to the DigiD app. It is then possible, for example, to transfer a car from the RDW or to view a medical file. The new version of DigiD for iOS was released on Monday.

With ID check, the security level of the DigiD app is increased to Substantial. Without using the authentication, that security level is Middle. The higher level gives organizations more certainty about the identity of the person logging in, giving users access to more sensitive data. ID-check was already available in the Android version two years ago.
