Dice shows trailer of new Battlefield V playing field in Greek Crete
Dice, the developer of Battlefield V, has released a trailer for a new playing field that will be added to the game soon. It is about the map called Mercury, in which the German invasion of Crete is imitated, as it were.
The trailer shows that the Germans have to try to conquer the coast of Crete, with the Germans clearly quite strong in the air, while the Allied British forces mainly have strong ground forces with tanks, armored vehicles and some anti-aircraft guns.
This makes Mercury more or less the first time in which both sides have quite different, asymmetrical playing styles. Incidentally, this partly corresponds to the actual situation of Operation Mercury. Although the Germans took possession of Crete in 1941, they suffered heavy losses, especially among the many paratroopers deployed. Whether the Germans in the game can also perform large air landings with paratroopers is not clear from the trailer.
With the introduction of Mercury, there are still no other parties part of Battlefield V than the Germans and the British. At a later moment there is another playing field with a battle that takes place in Greece. This map is called Marita and is named after the code name for the German invasion of the Greek mainland. Presumably only in the fifth chapter of the game will the introduction of the American armed forces, which may be about the battleground where Japan and the US fought for hegemony in the Pacific.
The Mercury map is part of the third chapter being added to Battlefield V called Trial by Fire. At the end of March, the first new content of this chapter followed, the battle royale mode called Firestorm. These additions are free and so is Mercury; the map will be released on May 30.
